In my previous post where I celebrate my new land on the Internet, I have calculated how much space my virtual new home occupies if compared with the total land area on Earth. It was about 35 m² or 376 ft².
Maybe you are interested about calculating your land area, so I have the explanations bellow and a small calculator if you don’t want to calculate it by yourself.
How I have calculated my land size on the Internet?
To make the calculations I had to know how many gigabytes exist today. Unfortunately I couldn’t find the exact value for 2022 but I found it here to be about 59 ZB or 59,000,000,000,000 GB in 2020. Yes, 12 zeros!
So I’ve interpolated values with simple linear interpolation to find out estimates for 2022 which is about 105 ZB.
A quick search on Wikipedia led me to a total Earth’s land area of 148,940,000 km².
Divide one by the other and we have the ratio of 1.418 m² / GB. Multiply that for my total rented space, 25GB and we have a total of 35.45 m².

In case math isn’t your thing I’ve made a simple calculator so you just insert your storage (in gigabytes) and I will calculate the result:
Just insert how much gigabytes you have rented and the calculator will do the rest:
